Though Lightningclan was oft known for their aloofness, it was odd that two of their cats were cursed with the disabilities they had. Troutfire, having been blind from birth, and Ivoryspike, who had a speech impairment and was mentally.. not Always the straightest. Ivorykit never knew his father. Sure, he was told great things, how his father was a saviour, a kind tom, the hero of the clans. But Ivorykit was a skeptic, after all, how would he know for sure, if he never saw the tom himself. Despite never seeing his father, he swore he saw shadows on the wall, with two odd-coloured eyes watching his every move. This Always scared the young tom, but it was a thing that would change his path forever. His mother and the clan's medicine cat, Brightfeather, were very close. Brightfeather was almost like kin to him, a second mother, so it may seem. Ivorykit told Brightfeather of the shadows on the wall, the haunting feeling he got that someone was watching him. This seemed to turn Brightfeather suspicious, or was it excited? Ivorykit was too young to tell. She told him she would ask StarClan for answers, and though Ivorykit was intrigued by the idea to speak to his ancestors, he left her be, and went on to speak to his mother. His mother broke the news to him. Every day he was getting closer to the dreaded six moons, and he would become a warrior apprentice. Somehow, Ivorykit was only just aware of the fact that he would have to train to fight. He was distraught, hurt, and unwilling. Unlike him, he threw a giant fit, shrieked at his loving mother, and ran to Brightfeather. He begged her to take him as his apprentice, and surprisingly, Brightfeather accepted pretty easily. Maybe being platonic kin with a medicine cat was worth it after all. When he arrived at the star tunnel to become a full medicine cat apprentice, he did not expect the cat to be awaiting him was his own mother. She had died during their trip to the sacred place, without notice or any warning signs. Though his heart filled with grief at his only blood-related kin having passed away, he was in some way glad that his mother accepted him as a medicine cat, and no one else. No scary shadow cats, and no unfamiliars. It was only after the death of Eaglestar that LightningClan truly fell into ruin. Leaf-bare was on their doorstep and cats were starving. Border tensions were high, and no one knew what to do. That was until a handsome tom strode into their clan, his tail swerving and his head high. Ivorypaw was only a little familiar with him, but he could tell from how he carried himself, that he was a force to be reckoned with. The tom's name was Heronstar, a BoulderClan warrior. He spoke to Brightfeather about merging BoulderClan and LightningClan together to become one, stronger clan. He promised her stability, he promised her riches, and only gave the underlying threat of war between the stronger BoulderClan against the weakened LightningClan as an argument. Brightfeather reluctantly agreed, but only because she had to train their lone medicine cat, Ashpaw. And so, ThistleClan was born. In hindsight, it wasn't a bad idea, it was just the cat that lead it what made it so bad. Heronstar was a tyrant, he ruled his clan with an iron fist. No cat ate without permission, no cat hunted without something to bring back. Though he kept the large clan well fed.. they were miserable. The camp was crowded, and every day Ivorysky could only watch as his clan he once knew grew grumpy and cold towards their new inhabitants. It created more division than unison, and even Ivorysky felt himself drawn away from the BoulderClan medicine cat, Ashpaw. He was not a cat he could confide in, and Ivorysky could only hope that Brightfeather knew how to fix this all. That was what he thought before Brightfeather died. At first when he heard the news, he thought it was some cruel joke. After all, Ashpaw was a bastard. It was only after he held vigil for her, that he knew it was over. For her, for everyone. Ivorypaw lost hope. There was no fully trained medicine cat, no family, and no friend left for him in this large clan. The place that felt so crowded once now felt even worse so, it felt as if he was drowning in a sea of cats. When the plague started, he wouldn't get much better. The symptoms spread fast throughout the clan. Being so close to each other, it was only a matter of time before more than a pawful were cooped up in his den. Many cats thought it to be greencough. That was coughs, right? But the sickly burned through his stash of catmint, and Ivorypaw's fears never seized. Ashpaw for once was trying his best too, but they were no match. Cats were dropping like flies, and even Heronstar didn't look so good anymore. It was only after Windpaw, the kit he had seen her mother die for, had passed away, that he knew that this plague could not be stopped. So he needed to escape. At that moment, Ivorysky could only think of himself. That was so unlike him, but desperate times call for desperate measures. He never stopped searching for a cure, though. No, his nights were left sleepless as he searched the meadows, between cracked boulders, and along the stream. His expiriments for a cure became downright cruel, even trying to feed deathberries to the worst off to see if something worked- something had to work! But it never did. He was left helpless, watching his clanmates die out one by one as he knew he could do nothing to help. Then one night, two warriors came to him. An unfamiliar she-cat named Milkberry, and his large clanmate, Furzestorm. They begged him to talk to Heronstar and convince him to leave their territory. It was clear that StarClan did not wish for there to be a cure, that much was sure. When Ivorysky was unsure, Furzestorm told him that if Heronstar disagreed, the clan would revolt. And revolt they did. Heronstar had almost rounded up on Ivorypaw for bringing up the mere idea of running away. Ivorypaw bursted out of the den, frantically telling the patiently waiting warriors that Heronstar disagreed, and for once, the normally distant and aggressive tom looked resolute and final. He stood, and headed into the den, where the healthy warriors lied. It was only at dawn that Heronstar spotted all of the cats he knew- and even some he didn't know, huddled into a corner of the camp. It was quite impressive, he thought to himself as he watched the ferocious warriors wait. And with a flick of a tail, the cats burst out into a battle cry, thundering towards the leader's den. It was quiet for a moment, before Heronstar burst out of the den, his pelt ruffled and angry as the cats of all shapes and sizes chased him out. He could tell that Heronstar wished to fight back, but it was clear by the bared teeth and sharpened claws, he would have all of his lives pulled out one by one. BoulderClan and LightningClan were back again. Though with this brief moment of kinship, the two clans quickly seperated without Heronstar's lead- and rightfully so. Ivorypaw took quickly to Lilacfang, the LightningClan deputy, as Furzestorm and her brewed up a plan to leave. After a while of discussion, both in the clan and with the other clans, all four clans trekked over the mountain for their new territory. Ivorypaw was unsure if StarClan still accepted him, but the day before they arrived at their new camp, StarClan gave him a dream. He saw his mother again, and she looked happy, proud, almost. She sat beside Ivoryspike, the father he had heard so much about, and gave Ivorypaw his full name. "From this day on, you will be known as Ivorysky." |
